Today, Minsk is the capital of Belarus. The first mention of Minsk is found in the historical chronicle, the Tale of Bygone Years. Since then, Minsk has experienced a lot, including bombing during the Second World War, which caused enormous damage to local places. Despite this, the city remains a cultural and historical center. Today, there are 16 museums, 11 theaters, 139 libraries and countless number of Orthodox and Catholic churches.
