Fringilla is the name of the bird observatory in Rybachy village, Curonian Spit. It was established by German ornithologist Johannes Thienemann. This beautiful word means ‘a finch’ in Latin, a very common bird in this area. For seven months of the year millions of birds fly over the landscapes of the spit heading to warm countries. Here they fall into specially constructed traps 15 meters high and then got registered and ringed.
