Teide Peak is a volcano on Tenerife and the highest point in Spain. This was a sacred mountain for the aboriginal inhabitants – the legend has it that the devil was locked inside Teide after he had kidnapped the god of light and the sun and tried to imprison him inside the volcano. The volcano is active. Teide last erupted in 1909. 170 species of plants adorn its slopes, 30 of which are unique.
